CHILDREN’S PROGRAM - TAF FOR KIDS

The TAF2019 team is excited to share the joy of reading and writing with the kids of the Huon Valley.

There’s something for everyone with plenty of opportunities to write, dress-up, paint, party and interact with local children’s authors.


CHILDREN’S WRITING COMPETITION 

The Program begins with the TAF2019 Children’s Writing Competition, with categories for everyone up to the age of 16. Submit the best story about a female bushranger to win!

Up to Grade 2 - up to 100 words

Grades 3 and 4 - up to 500 words

Grades 5 and 6 - up to 2000 words

Open to the age of 16 (i.e. the entrant may be any age up to 16 on 31 October 2019) - up to 3000 words

TERROR AUSTRALIS FESTIVAL ART AWARDS

 

If your kids like to paint or draw as well as write, there’s a children’s category in the Terror Australis Festival Art Awards. Submit the best piece of art depicting a female bushranger to win!

In the last week of October, ten local children’s authors will visit local libraries and primary schools to share their work and a range of fun activities. Our inaugural line-up of talented Children’s Program authors includes:

 HALLOWEEN PARTY

 

Everyone is invited to the TAF2019 Community Halloween Party with Children’s Book Costume Parade on Thursday 31 October 2019 at Cygnet Town Hall.

The party is open to all members of the Huon Valley and surrounding communities and will include food and drink stallholders (and a festival bar for parents and adults), a Children’s Book Costume Parade (with more prizes!) and the announcement of the Children’s Writing Competition Award winners.

Everyone, regardless of age, is encouraged to dress up as one of their favourite characters from a book and join in the fun!

On Friday 1 November, from 10am to 4pm, kids of all ages are invited to visit the Alley of Children’s Books in the Hall of Writers (Cygnet Town Hall), featuring 11 local children’s authors:
