What is TAF2020 Replay and why are we offering it?
At Terror Australis Readers and Writers Festival (TARWF), based in southern Tasmania, we're deeply saddened by the current postponement or cancellation of many of our favourite writers' festivals.
While we understand physical distancing is necessary to slow the spread of COVID19, it's also hard.
So for the enjoyment and distraction of book lovers everywhere, in late March 2020 we're offering a free online writers festival - TAF2020 Replay.
We’ll be offering a full replay of all 12 of our TAF2019 Murder She Wrote Panel Sessions, courtesy of our podcast team at Living Arts Canberra.
Inspired by Agatha Christie, join us for four days of virtual panel discussions exploring crime and mystery fiction written by women, followed by live Q&As online.
In late 2019, TAF brought together a community of writers and readers. As all our communities struggle with the current threat, stories can help ease the isolation and anxiety. We need them more than ever. I loved being part of TAF2019, and I'm excited to be part of the TAF2020 Replay interactive sessions. - Meg Keneally
What inspired the original TAF2019 Festival?
Our panel session theme, Murder She Wrote, was inspired by Agatha Christie. Christie published her first novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, exactly 100 years ago, in 1920.
Christie also wished to move to southern Tasmania.
Incredibly beautiful Hobart, with its deep blue sea and harbour, and its flowers, trees and shrubs. I planned to come back and live there one day. - Agatha Christie
We like to think she'd approve of a festival in southern Tasmania dedicated to exploring crime and mystery fiction written by women.
What's on offer at TAF2020 Replay?
A riveting Welcome to Country, the Official Opening of the Festival by the Hon. Kate Warner, Governor of Tasmania, recorded book launches and all 12 Murder She Wrote Panel Sessions.
