Media - Approved Panellist Quotes

I have never anticipated a festival more than I anticipate TAF2019! What an incredible opportunity for readers, aspiring and emerging writers, and passionate authors and publishers, to mix and celebrate the written word (and local food and drink) in Tassie. - Angela Meyer

TAF2019

Terror Australis Readers and Writers Festival (TAF2019) is Tasmania’s newest biennial literary festival held in the gorgeous Huon Valley.

All events from Thursday evening to Sunday afternoon take place in the TAF2019 Festival Precinct, a cluster of buildings in the centre of Cygnet including Cygnet Town Hall, Lovett Gallery, Southern Swan, ReFind and Carmel Hall.

There are three areas of programming to enjoy across our Halloween-to-Melbourne Cup long weekend of words, wine and mystery in the glorious Huon Valley.

Immerse yourself fully in one, or pick and choose from all three!

MURDER SHE WROTE - A Criminally Good Time

Thursday 31 Oct to Sun 3 Nov 2019

Inspired by Agatha Christie, the inaugural TAF2019 theme - Murder She Wrote - is an exploration and celebration of crime and mystery fiction written by women.

Featuring Tara Moss, Marta Dusseldorp and Shamini Flint, our panellist line-up is to die for. Meet them at our range of incisive panels (Sat 2 and Sun 3 Nov), grave workshops (Thurs 31 Oct and Fri 1 Nov) and deadly festivities (Thurs 31 Oct to Sun 3 Nov).

Test your abilities as a detective at our Murder Mystery Party: Curse of the Sphinx. Can you catch a killer before our panellists?

Or enter our female bushranger-themed Art Competition for a share of over $2000 worth of prizes!

INSPIRE THE LOVE OF READING - Free Community Program

Thursday 31 Oct to Sun 3 Nov 2019

In addition to celebrating darker words and worlds, the festival will encourage readers to expand their bookshelves through the Hall of Writers (Fri 1 Nov), the largest gathering of authors and publishers ever held in the Huon Valley.

Alongside our Children’s Program (Thurs 31 Oct) and Book Launch Program (Fri 1 to Sun 3 Nov) - including launches from Carmel Bird and Matthew Evans - TAF2019 aims to inspire the love of reading in our community, which currently has a functional literacy rate of just 50%.

TRAIL OF WRITERS’ TEARS - Food, Wine and Books

Sun 3 Nov 2019 to Tues 5 Nov 2019

After four days of exploring dangerous stories, expanding your nefarious knowledge and connecting through wicked words, relax during our two-day après-fest ~ the Trail of Writers’ Tears (Sun 3 to Tues 5 Nov) ~ by exploring the finest produce, arts and culture the Huon Valley has to offer.

Kick-off with First Dog on the Moon’s Words & Whisky event, followed by a range of cooking classes, book-binding classes and feasts.

Thank you for helping to support the Huon Valley’s recovery from the devastating January/February 2019 bushfires.

There are so many authors I admire on the program, and I’m always looking for an excuse to visit Tassie... The Terror Australis Festival is shaping up to be the highlight of my year! I especially can’t wait to meet all the bookworms, young and old. - Jack Heath
